Leavenworth’s Nordic ski team for athletes with special needs has been training hard for the past month, thanks in no small part to the heroic efforts of the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club on the local ski tracks. Nine athletes are participating this year, assisted by about 15 dedicated coaches. Three of our athletes have never been on skis before and their progress has amazed us all! We’re out every Sunday afternoon from about 3 to 5p.m.—you can’t miss us! We’re the big group in purple spread out all over the track. Thanks to all of you who have cheered us on when you go by—your encouraging words are much appreciated! We’re working towards competing in the State Special Olympics Winter Games the first weekend of March. Come out to the Hatchery Trails on March 3rd and cheer on your local team. It’s a weekend you won’t soon forget.
